LOCAL4GREEN PLUS Kick-off Meeting

We organize our 1st partners' meeting to continue investigating and applying everything we have learned with LOCAL4GREEN in more pilot municipalities for promoting the green transition

From the local, what can be done to motivate the change to renewable energy? Green fiscal policies have proven to be one of the answers. After checking it with LOCAL4GREEN, now we want to continue investigating, improving, adding and applying everything we have learned in more pilot municipalities. Increasing the share of local renewable energy sources is our main objective.

In this context, on 24 March 2021 we held our Project Kick-off Meeting to begin the shared challenge of promoting the green transition in municipalities from rural areas and islands of the Mediterranean. In this first meeting, the partners of LOCAL4GREEN PLUS Project knew our face and voice (through a screen), since due to the pandemic it had to be organized online. In other circumstances, it would have been face-to-face in Valencia, the city where the FVMP is located, organization that is the Lead Partner of this Project in the framework of Interreg MED Programme.

From Valencia, FVMP welcomed partners and expressed its satisfaction to be able to continue the work started with LOCAL4GREEN, the previous project developed from 2016 to 2019 and which proved the viability of local fiscal policies as a really effective instrument for promoting the use of renewable energies in the municipalities. An experience that, from Spain, FVMP has already carried out jointly with the MUSOL Foundation. In this new project, MUSOL will be in charge to offer technical support and training to pilot municipalities for implementing green fiscal policies. And in this way, they told us in the first meeting, where we learned both the coordination rules and internal dynamics of LOCAL4GREEN PLUS, and the importance of drawing up our own communication plan to achieve the strategic objectives of the project and contribute to bring the European policies and their impact closer to citizens.

In this adventure, Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal and Cyprus go hand in hand again. While FVMP and MUSOL repeat experience, in this edition new partners are added: The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy (BBI, Italy), the Union of Cyprus Communities (UCC, Cyprus), the Association of Municipalities of Central Alentejo (AMCAL, Portugal) and EGTC EFXINI POLI - European Cities for Sustainable Development Network (EFXINI POLI, Greece). All of us who are behind these acronyms are very excited to do our best to make our towns more friendly, inclusive, livable and respectful with the environment. The challenge begins!
